PETER & THE WOLF & THE ORCHESTRA
Devised by Susan Chapek
An opera for the orchestra for symphony pops concerts. A comedy intro invites the audience to audition the instruments to play the characters (the Tuba insists on auditioning for all of them). Then instrumental soloists suit up in furry costumes to play as they pantomime the Prokofiev score. (Peter and the Wolf are performers with muted instruments.)
Especially suited to high school orchestras.
No trigger warnings needed: the Duck doesn’t die.

BLUEBEARD’S WHITE CASTLE
by Susan Chapek
A farce/horror remix: this contemporary Bluebeard attracts victims with greasy fast food instead of marriage. Bluebeard’s an energy vampire with a growing collection of teen victims, but this power source is draining fast and Bluebeard’s getting desperate when two new prospects walk in. One of them is applying for an after-school gig—good!—but the other’s a highly suspicious and nosy vegan. About 30 minutes, with 4 principals (no genders specified) plus ensemble.
